Art & Design
The department seeks to develop perceptive skills and visual awareness of all pupils, develop practical creative abilities, encourage expression of ideas and also instil self confidence in their own ability.
It is our intention to give every pupil the opportunity to success and also to value the enjoyment and enrichment Art can bring to their lives. The pupils will be given opportunities to communicate their ideas in a variety of ways and to develop their skills to work both independently and as part of a team.
During Key Stage 3 pupils complete topic work. In Year 7 these topics consist of Faces, Patterns and Journeys. Year 8 topic work includes Masks, Containers and Gardens.
In Year 9 pupils get the opportunity to decide if they want to choose Art as a GCSE option. The three year OCR GCSE course allows pupils to use skills that they have learnt in Key stage 3 to complete a portfolio of practical work based on Pop Art and Natural forms. This counts for 60% of the final GCSE mark. The final 40% is then an externally set task which is completed in a 10 hour supervised time period.
