Students at Sutton School had a great time visiting Sandwell Valley Park and Camping overnight on the school field for the ultimate outdoor experience. They explored, pitched and sang songs around the campfire with hot chocolate and marshmellows....yum yum!!
Check out what they got up to....
On Monday we went to Sandwell Park Farm for the day and had a great time exploring the grounds and Victorian farm. We found our way out of the maze, saw animals in the farm, played on the play area and rounded the afternoon off with an ice-cream. Daniel had a wonderful 13th birthday, when we got back to school we had some carrot cake to celebrate!
Tuesday – A night under the stars
Today in school children have made lanterns and dream catchers. The dream catchers have been hung up in tents to make sure we have a good night’s sleep! In school we also made a camp flag, which formed part of our opening ceremony for the overnight camp.
Children developed their team building skills by putting up tents and preparing for a night under the stars well done and thank you from all staff. We played football on the field and played outdoors while we waited for our fish and chip supper, which was delicious. We had fun playing camp fire games, the most popular one being “duck, duck, GOOSE!”. The children did not rate Mrs Etherington’s singing.
Children wanted to get into their pyjamas ad get comfy before bed. When the night started to draw in we all gathered around the chimenea (which our very kind parent governor, Caroline Chapman, leant us – thank you!) and had hot chocolate and toasted marshmallows.
Children went to bed and slept under the stars. This was a big step for many of our children, they all coped tremendously well and were a pleasure to camp with.
Thank you to children for good teamwork and great behaviour, staff for such hard work and dedication, and to parents and carers for sending them with all the correct equipment!
