Sutton's Got Talent

Sutton's Got Talent is back!

This is an opportunity for you perform on stage and be a star for a night!

Can you

  • sing?
  • dance?
  • act?
  • hula hoop?
  • juggle?
  • anything else?

Application forms are available from the music block and need to be handed in by 12th February. Auditions will be held starting the week beginning 22nd February. The final will be held at Brierley Hill Civic Hall on Tuesday 19th April 2016.

So whatever your talent, get practising!

Black Country Museum

Today the whole school had an exciting day out at the Black Country Museum. Pupils were able to experience school as it would have been in 1912, and what it would have been like to work down a coal mine.

Pupils and staff had fun talking to people in the houses and shops, who explained to us what life would have been like in the Olden Days.

There were also opportunities to try Victorian games like the hoop, skipping and hopscotch. Even some of the teachers had a go.

A great day was had by all.

Wizard of Oz

After weeks of planning, rehearsing and making, last night was finally Show Night.

Pupils took to the stage at Brierley Hill Civic Hall once more, wowing the audience with their performance of Wizard of Oz.

Everyone working on the show, both on the stage and behind the scenes did incredibly well, earning a standing ovation from the audience.

Congratulations to all involved.

Children In Need

On Friday pupils and staff came to school dressed as their hero to raise money for Children In Need.

We spent the day in the hall taking part in various challenges, some of which got messy. There were a couple of naughty minions who kept causing trouble on the stage, but mostly everyone stuck to the rules.

After lunch the results of the Pie The Teacher vote was revealed. Poor Miss Wood was the one pupils had voted for, and she bravely let pupils throw custard pies at her.

Thank you to Mrs Duckworth and Mrs Ruston for organising a fun day, and thank you to everyone for taking part in the challenges.

Sutton Remembers

Today we gathered in the hall for a very special assembly. We were joined by old friends Bill Caldwell and John Shepherd for our annual remembrance assembly. Pupils read poems and laid poppy wreaths that they had made in  Nurture Group lessons.

Mr Caldwell spoke to us about how people are affected by war, before Mr Shepherd played the Last Post and we all observed a minute silence.

Thank you to all pupils who contributed, and a special thanks to Mrs St. Claire for organising a very moving assembly.

We will be delivering the blankest in the next few weeks so if you have any to add to our collection please send them in as soon as possible.

Knit one purl one

Now everyone is back from their adventures both at home and abroad, it's time to get knitting again. Our knitting skills are developing nicely and we have some squares ready to be sewn into blankets.

The staff have been getting involved too, even taking their knitting to do by the pool in Menorca!

dedication to the cause

If you have been making squares, or wish to help us out, please send your contributions into school with your child before the 16th October.

Warwick Castle!!

It's the start of our curriculum enrichment week, the whole school visited Warwick Castle, despite the weather we had a grand day out. We were able to enjoy and look around the grand hall, which was absolutely amazing. Some of the more daring of us walked the ramparts all 532 steps!! We saw the birds of prey show and the bowman show. Mrs Ralphs and Mrs Tombs visited the castle dungeon, we heard the screams outside!

Knitting for charity

As part of our life skills lessons we are learning to knit and crochet. We are aiming to make blankets to send to refugees from Syria. Every pupil is aiming to make at least one square, which Mrs Baker and other teachers will then sew together. We are trying very hard and some of us are getting very good.

We would like to have as many blankets to send as we can, so we are asking any parents/carers/grandparents/friends who can knit to help us. If you can knit or crochet, we would love it if you could make a square to be added to ours. If you have the time, and want to make a whole blanket, even better!

If you can't knit or crochet, but would like to help, then donations of wool and/or knitting needles would be gratefully received.

We aim to have our blankets ready to take to a collection point over half term, so please send any donations in to school by 17th October.

Sports Day 2015

9.3 Dudley Zoo Trip

On Monday 9.3 went on a trip to Dudley Zoo. We had planned to have a picnic and an icecream, but unfortunately the sun decided to have a day off. The rain didn't put us off though, and we had a lot of fun spotting the animals, most of whom were hiding indoors where it was dry.

Eventually it did stop raining, and we managed to see lots more animals.

We even made a new friend.

Presentation Evening 2015

On Wednesday 8th July pupils took to the stage at Brierley Hill Civic Hall to celebrate another successful year at Sutton. Pupils performed songs from the 1980s.
During the evening pupils received certificates for their hard work over the last year. Some pupils were also awarded special awards in recognition of their achievements.

Well done to everybody who took part in Presentation Evening, both on the stage and behind the scenes, and congratulations to all those who won awards.

Sponsored Walk

Between 29th June and 3rd of July, pupils and staff took part in a sponsored walk around Himley Hall to raise money to put towards a new PE kit. The course was 0.6 miles long, and we kept a record of how many we did.

Over the course of the week pupils and staff walked a grand total of 720 laps which equals 432.6 miles. That means that we have walked from Birmingham to Paris!

After walking all that way we had a well earned rest in the shade and played some team games. We all had a lot of fun.
