Modern Foreign Languages
Languages are taught in the summer term each year on a subject focus day; the timetable is collapsed and all students learn a Modern Foreign Language through a range of hands-on activities. Each year group has the opportunity to learn some basic vocabulary in French, German, Italian or Spanish, through tasks and conversation which are based on topics including food and drink, popular culture, music and sport.
We learn about the country and the culture to give the language education some context. We also hold a ‘Eurovision Song Contest’ in the afternoon, where forms compete against each other, performing a song in their focus language.
In the last few years, students have visited Crete, Barcelona, Menorca and Paris on residential trips during Activity week. These trips underpin the culture and language focus of our MFL days.
