It has been another busy and positive fortnight at Sutton School, with a wide range of activities, trips, and opportunities that continue to enrich our pupils’ experiences both in and out of the classroom.
We are particularly proud of the way our pupils have supported the wider community this week, including generous donations to the Black Country Foodbank and the local Brierley Hill Babybank. These visits reflect the kindness, empathy, and social responsibility which we aim to nurture in all of our young people!
Our Easter silent discos have also been a highlight on the calendar for both pupils and staff this week. Everyone had lots of fun, and it was a real pleasure to watch the pupils relax, enjoy their own choice of music and engage with one another in a sensory-friendly and supportive atmosphere.
This week our newsletter includes highlights from Comic Relief 2026 and 'Australia Day.'
We hope you enjoy reading about the fantastic work and achievements taking place across the school.

A reminder that our Sutton Stage Star Show will take place on 25th March 2026, as mentioned in the previous newsletter. We are incredibly excited for this event and look forward to seeing our pupils showcase their wonderful talents.
We would also like to remind families about the Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme, which offers a range of activities and support during the school holidays. Further details on how to access HAF provision are included below.

At Sutton School, we are proud to continue supporting Comic Relief. This important national event gives our pupils the opportunity to come together, have fun, and make a real difference to the lives of others.
As an SEN school, we recognise how important events like Comic Relief are in helping our pupils develop empathy, understanding, and a sense of social responsibility.
This year, pupils have enjoyed participating in a range of activities across the school, raising money while also learning about the importance of helping others. Comic Relief supports vulnerable people and communities both across the UK and around the world, funding projects that tackle issues such as poverty, mental health, homelessness, and inequality.
Taking part in Comic Relief not only allows our pupils to contribute to these important causes, but also supports their personal development—building confidence, teamwork, and awareness of the wider world.
We would like to thank all of our families for their continued support and generosity. Every contribution, no matter how small, helps to make a big difference.

At Sutton School, we always enjoy engaging in 'World Culture Day!' Each special day allows pupils the opportunity to explore and learn about a different country. This time, on Friday 20th March, we travelled all the way to Australia!
Throughout the day, pupils took part in a range of fun, engaging, and sensory-based activities designed to bring Australian culture to life. Activities included:
Learning about Australia’s famous landmarks such as the Sydney Opera House and the Great Barrier Reef
Exploring native Australian animals including kangaroos, koalas, and wombats
Creative arts and crafts inspired by Aboriginal art patterns and storytelling
Listening to traditional Australian music and exploring different sounds
Food tasting experiences linked to Australian cuisine
Geography-based activities, including locating Australia on the world map and learning about its climate
As an SEN school, we ensure that all activities are accessible, engaging, and adapted to meet the needs of our pupils, allowing everyone to take part and enjoy the experience.
World Culture Day is a fantastic opportunity for our pupils to develop their understanding of the wider world, celebrate diversity, and build curiosity about different cultures and traditions.
We look forward to exploring another exciting country in the future!

This week, pupils at Sutton School had an amazing time taking part in our Silent Discos, which were a huge success across the school!
These events provided a fun, inclusive, and sensory-friendly way for pupils to enjoy music, movement, and social interaction. With individual headphones, pupils were able to control their own experience, making it accessible and enjoyable for all—particularly beneficial within our SEN setting.
There was a fantastic atmosphere throughout, with pupils showing great enthusiasm, confidence, and engagement. It was wonderful to see so many smiling faces and pupils expressing themselves through music and dance.
To make the experience even more special, the tuck shop was also available, giving pupils the opportunity to enjoy some fun and unusual treats, which added to the excitement of the day!
Events like this play an important role in supporting wellbeing, building social skills, and providing positive shared experiences for our pupils. We are incredibly proud of how well everyone engaged and supported one another.
We look forward to hosting more events like this in the future!

We would like to remind families about the Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) Programme taking place over the Easter holidays in Dudley.
The HAF programme provides free holiday clubs for children and young people who are eligible for benefits-related free school meals. These sessions offer a fantastic range of fun activities, including sports, creative workshops, games, and trips, alongside a nutritious meal each day.
HAF is a great opportunity for pupils to:
Stay active and engaged during the holidays
Build confidence and social skills
Try new activities in a safe and supportive environment
Access healthy meals
Places are still available, and it is not too late to apply.

At Sutton School, we are always proud to recognise awareness days in relation to special educational needs and disabilities. Next week marks FND Awareness Day, helping to raise awareness and understanding of Functional Neurological Disorder (FND).
FND is a condition that affects how the brain and body communicate, which can result in a range of symptoms such as difficulties with movement, weakness, seizures, fatigue, and episodes where a young person may temporarily lose the ability to move or speak. These symptoms are very real and can be distressing for both the individual and their family.
As an SEN school, we understand the importance of recognising and responding to complex and emerging needs such as FND. We work closely with families and external professionals, including medical teams and specialist services, to support further investigation where FND is suspected or diagnosed.
Awareness days like this are important in helping our pupils and staff develop empathy and understanding. We aim to create a school community where all health needs—seen and unseen—are recognised and supported.
