Performing Arts

Pupils are offered a rich and varied programme of Performing Arts opportunities, including both group and individual music lessons, alongside dedicated Performing Arts and Music lessons. Pupils can work towards a recognised qualification in the Performing Arts, while also taking part in school productions, dance showcases, and music performances throughout the year.

These experiences are designed to build confidence, creativity, teamwork, and strong performance skills, while also enhancing pupils’ cultural capital through exposure to a wide range of artistic styles, performance disciplines, and professional practices. We place great value on the Performing Arts and believe in providing pupils with authentic, inspiring experiences. Performances are regularly held at Brierley Hill Civic Hall, giving students the opportunity to perform in a professional setting with stage lighting, sound equipment, and a large audience, replicating the atmosphere of a real theatre and broadening their understanding of the performing arts industry.

Pupils also have the opportunity to take part in a range of external events, including dance festivals, music workshops, and performance opportunities. These include participation in Young Voices, a large-scale national music event held at the NEC, where pupils perform as part of a massed choir in a professional arena setting. Pupils have also had the opportunity to perform at well-known venues such as the Symphony Hall, further enhancing their cultural capital and giving them valuable experience of performing in prestigious, professional environments. These experiences broaden pupils’ musical and performance horizons and provide meaningful insight into the wider performing arts industry.

Individual instrumental lessons are available, including guitar and brass, allowing pupils to develop their skills and pursue personal musical interests. In addition, external specialist providers deliver class-based music lessons in the lower school, where pupils explore a wide range of instruments. These sessions support the development of musical skills, encourage curiosity, and help pupils discover a passion for music and performance, further contributing to pupils’ cultural awareness and enrichment.

Pupils who have a keen interest in the subject also have the opportunity to take part in Performing Arts-themed after-school clubs, providing further chances to develop talent, collaborate with peers, and build confidence in a supportive and creative environment.
