Art & Design

Intent

Our Art and Design Curriculum allows pupils to be able to share and express their individual creativity, independence, resilience, and self-reflection. We aim to provide all our pupils with the fundamental skills, techniques and knowledge needed to independently create their own unique drawings, paintings, sculptures, and crafts. Pupils experience works of different artists relating to their topic-based themes. Our curriculum is blended, balanced and inclusive, to meet the needs of our pupils.

Implementation

Our curriculum in Trees has been created to inspire, engage and to develop enthusiasm for art and design. Pupils will focus on building key skills to support understanding of observational drawing; sculpture, texture and colour through a range of suggested media. With a key emphasis on the work of different artists, pupils are taught about the artistic practices and styles through history until the present day. Throughout our art topics, pupils are encouraged to explore how different materials and techniques can be used, alongside their imagination, to produce their own individual piece of creativity.

As pupils progress through into Hills and Rivers, they can develop their interest and progress in Art and Design by working towards the following qualifications.

GCSE Art and Design- Our GCSE Art and Design develops knowledge, skills, and understanding to enable pupils to express their creativity and imagination through responses to visual and written stimuli. The course lasts for three years with the final grade divided into 60% portfolio and 40% Exam.

BTEC Level 1 Art and Design-This course is designed for learners wishing to gain an introduction to the art and design industry. We cover units such as creating an art image and creating prints. Pupils get the opportunity to achieve a Pass, Merit or Distinction when completing the course.

WJEC Entry2/3 Art and Design- This course enables pupils to acquire the skills and knowledge required to explore and develop outcomes in the discipline of drawing, painting and textiles.

ASDAN Entry 1 Personal Progress (Encountering Creativity) This course is tailored to the interest of our pupils to promote self-expression and creativity through art and design while gaining transferable skills to support personal progress.
