We hope our Sutton community has had a lovely week and enjoyed the extra Bank Holiday weekend. Whilst these breaks are always appreciated, we also understand that changes in routine can sometimes play havoc with our children emotionally, mentally and physically. Inside this week’s newsletter, we have included some helpful tips and strategies to support with transitions and returning back into routine after longer weekends and holidays.
This week, we are also recognising and celebrating both Mental Health Awareness Week and National Numeracy Day, with lots of wonderful activities taking place across school.
One of the most exciting things happening in school currently is our egg hatching project! 🐣
Our eggs have officially arrived and we will soon begin hatching them in school.
We currently have:
🐥 7 chicken eggs
🦆 5 duck eggs
If anybody would like to suggest names for our chicks and ducklings, please bring your ideas to Reflection — we would love to hear them!
As always, thank you for your continued support and for being part of our wonderful Sutton community.
Safe, Happy, Learning Towards Independence.

This is an important opportunity for us all to reflect on the importance of emotional wellbeing and how this impacts every aspect of a child’s life, particularly their ability to learn, engage and feel safe.
At Sutton School, we recognise that for many children and young people with additional needs, emotional regulation, anxiety, confidence and wellbeing can present daily challenges. As a school, we strongly believe that children cannot successfully access learning without first having a solid emotional foundation and feeling safe, supported and understood.
This is why wellbeing sits at the heart of everything we do.
Across school, we provide a range of supportive interventions and safe spaces to help our pupils develop emotional resilience, confidence and self-regulation skills, including:
💙 The Safe & Wellbeing Hub – providing a nurturing space where pupils can access support, regulation strategies and trusted adults when needed.
💙 ELSA Interventions (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant) – helping pupils understand emotions, build coping strategies and develop positive relationships.
💙 Boxing Interventions – supporting emotional regulation, self-control, confidence, resilience and providing a positive emotional outlet through structured physical activity.
We know that when children feel emotionally secure, they are better able to:
✔ Build positive relationships
✔ Manage challenges and change
✔ Engage in learning
✔ Develop independence and resilience
✔ Thrive both in and outside of school
Mental health is just as important as physical health, and by working together as a school community, we can continue to support our children in developing healthy minds alongside their learning journeys.

This term, we have welcomed:
🐥 7 chicken eggs
🦆 5 duck eggs
The pupils have been incredibly excited watching the eggs incubate and learning all about the life cycle process. Over the coming days, we are hoping to see our chicks and ducklings begin to hatch!
For many of our pupils, experiences like this are about far more than simply watching animals grow. Animal-based experiences can have a hugely positive impact on emotional wellbeing and regulation, particularly for children and young people with SEND.
Spending time around animals can help to:
💛 Reduce anxiety and stress
💛 Promote calmness and emotional regulation
💛 Encourage nurturing and empathy
💛 Support communication and engagement
💛 Develop responsibility and independence
💛 Create opportunities for sensory exploration and curiosity
Watching the life cycle unfold in real time also provides valuable learning opportunities across many areas of the curriculum, including science, communication, emotional development and understanding the world around us.
The excitement and anticipation around the eggs has already created many wonderful conversations across school, and pupils have enjoyed checking in on the incubators throughout the day.
Once the chicks and ducklings have grown and are ready, they will be safely rehomed where they can continue to thrive and be cared for properly.

A huge congratulations to Sam Jennings from our Hills phase, for his fantastic achievements in swimming outside of school this weekend at the Rugby Gala!
Sam showed incredible determination, resilience and sporting talent, bringing home an amazing collection of medals:
🥇 1st Place – 4 x 25m Relay
🥈 2nd Place – 50m Freestyle
🥉 3rd Place – 25m Backstroke
This is a brilliant achievement and a reflection of all the hard work and dedication Sam continues to put into his swimming.
We are incredibly proud of Sam and love celebrating the amazing talents and successes our pupils achieve both in and out of school.
Well done, Sam — everyone at Sutton School is proud of you! 👏🏅

After speaking with several parents , many shared that their children really miss being able to access soft play facilities, but are now often considered “too old” for traditional settings. We know how important sensory play, movement and safe spaces are for many of our young people, so we wanted to share a wonderful organisation that may be of interest to our families.
Worcester Snoezelen is an incredible charitable organisation that provides a welcoming, inclusive and supportive environment for children, young people and adults with additional needs.
The centre offers a range of fantastic facilities, including:
🌈 Accessible soft play
🌈 Sensory spaces
🌈 Relaxation and therapy areas
🌈 Creative and social opportunities
🌈 A safe and welcoming environment for families
Their ethos is centred around:
💙 Acceptance
💙 Joyfulness
💙 Kindness
💙 Playfulness
Rather than focusing on disability, Worcester Snoezelen celebrates ability and individuality, ensuring every visitor feels safe, valued and included.
The organisation recognises that everybody has different needs and has worked hard to create a space where people can relax, regulate, communicate and simply enjoy themselves without judgement.
Whether you are looking for:
✨ A calming sensory experience
✨ Opportunities for social interaction
✨ A safe soft play environment
✨ Or simply somewhere your child can have fun and be themselves
Worcester Snoezelen may be a wonderful option for your family.
