Phases
TREES, HILLS, RIVERS
Pupils begin their learning journey in Trees and are taught in classbased provision in Years 7 and 8. During their time in Trees, pupils are supported to develop key skills of literacy and numeracy alongside important social and emotional skills to provide them with a secure foundation from which they can progress. As pupils move into Year 9, they will transition into either Hills or Rivers.
Each phase provides a supportive environment in which pupils are encouraged to develop skills of communication, independence and resilience. Every class is unique and our curriculum is adapted and personalised to meet the needs of each individual. We provide an education which aims to equip our students with the qualifications and skills they need for a smooth transition into further education.

LEARNING STYLES AND PEDAGOGY
At Sutton School, we use a mixed methods approach to the delivery of the curriculum where we aim to incorporate elements of visual, auditory and kinaesthetic learning in order to meet the range of needs within the class. Pupils are encouraged to actively participate in class, and lessons are made as interactive as possible across all subject areas.
RESIDENTIAL AND OFF-SITE LEARNING
Sutton School has a proud history of providing residential opportunities to all pupils, including overnight excursions and experiences, educational day trips and even residentials to foreign countries. Pupils are able to engage in off-site learning at a variety of venues including urban areas, discovering the wonders of nature or simply visiting parks and embracing the outdoors.
PARENTAL ENGAGEMENT
We like to encourage parents to take an active role in supporting pupils’ education. We foster good communication between home and school in order to meet the needs of every pupil in the best way possible.
