Our School

Headteachers welcome

Welcome to our school website – I hope you can find the information you’re seeking and that you are able to gain a worthwhile insight into our school.

As a school community we have resolved a clear intent, which we strive to achieve for every one of our pupils, that being ‘towards independence’. We believe this descriptor can be applied to every aspect of life at Sutton School and that by using this as a clear message to all, we bring clarity to our curriculum, our enrichment themes and all the wider work we do as a special school.

In working ‘towards independence’, we have three fundamental components which underpin our motto, these being:

Safe – Above all else we aim to keep our pupils safe, and teach them how to take responsibility for both their safety and the safety of others

Happy – Throughout our formative years we face testing challenges, our pupils need to be supported to embrace all that comes their way. We strive to help our pupils foster a positive outlook on which to build their successes.

Learning – Once safe and happy, our pupils are ready to embrace learning, the purpose being to enable our pupils to approach adulthood having made clear progress towards independence.

At our school, we recognise that many of our pupils have faced challenges in their educational journey. However, our commitment to ‘Safe, Happy Learning - Towards Independence’ has been a transformative force, evident in the remarkable successes of our pupils. We measure success in various ways, from the positive manner evident as pupils enter school each morning, to their active involvement in our engaging themes of Perform, Volunteer, or Sport. Ultimately, our aim is to guide them towards thriving in post-16 education, equipped with qualifications and certifications they can take pride in. We understand the profound influence of the secondary years, and at Sutton, we collaborate closely with our pupils and their families, supporting them as they navigate this critical phase of growth, working diligently towards independence. Together, we pave the way for their remarkable achievements and empower them to embrace their future with confidence.
