Sutton’s Animal Friends

Since the very earliest days of Sutton School we have recognised the enormous benefits our animal friends can bring. As a result over the years we have supported both general well-being and specific curriculum areas with a range of both resident and visiting animals. At this point we are particularly lucky to have a previous parent governor (Mrs Chapman) who is able to bring visiting exotic animals to support our Animal Care Pathway pupils when appropriate. Our current animals in residency and visiting are introduced below:

Our Skinny Pigs - Tommy & Arthur (Squeaky Blinders)

Tommy and Arthur are our second generation skinny pigs. Being without fur they are hypo-allergenic allowing all our pupils to interact with reduced risk of any allergy response. Lively and fun, they live in reflection, regularly demand fresh veg and bring smiles to all. Great for when you’re having a bad day and need a lift!

Our School Dog - Daisy

Our school dog Daisy follows in the paw prints of Bella (now retired) who since 2016 has been frequent and much loved visitor to school. Daisy is a calm and friendly small Show Cocker Spaniel who loves to be fussed and read to. A patient listener, Daisy is adept at cheering up the sad and calming the angry. Still young, Daisy is enjoying learning about school, meeting pupils and gently finding her way in the world. More information about Daisy can be found here.

Our Stick Insects - Some have names!

Far more active and interesting than first impressions might give, with a capacity to sometimes escape their enclosure! Requiring a very gentle hand and always growing in numbers it is sometimes difficult to tell what is stick and what is insect.

Our Fish Friends

Situated in inner reception, our fish tank is home to a varied population of fish both small and somewhat larger. Always worth a watch and calming in every way, our fish friends help us create a mindful space upon entering the school.
